Container GPS Tracking for Yards, Jobsites, and Transport

Containers often look alike, but their locations matter. Portable storage may move from a depot to a construction site, remain there for weeks, and then travel to the next customer. A GPS tracker helps your team check which site a tracked container is on before arranging delivery or collection.

Cube GPS gives you reported location, geofence notifications, and movement history through the Cube Tracker app. Create zones around your storage yard and active customer sites to add context when a container arrives or leaves. Share tracker access with the people coordinating transport and inventory.

Metal construction makes placement especially important. An enclosed steel container can block or weaken GPS and cellular signals, so test the mounting position under normal operating conditions, including with the doors closed. Choose an accessible location that avoids handling points and damage during loading.

Plan charging around the time a container will spend away from your yard. Check the most recent report before treating a map position as current, and use the tracker alongside container IDs, dispatch records, and physical inspections. A location report identifies the tracker position; it does not confirm the condition or contents of the container.

Product details

Cube GPS Pro provides magnetic mounting and IP67 water resistance for suitable outdoor asset installations. Inspect the chosen attachment point and allow access to remove and recharge the device without disrupting container handling.

An active Cube data plan, sufficient battery power, and compatible GPS and cellular reception are required for reporting. Cellular coverage may be limited along parts of a transport route, at terminals, or inside buildings. This setup is best evaluated for the specific yards and overland routes you use.

Pair multiple trackers with the Cube Tracker app and maintain a record linking each device to its container ID. Use geofences and history to support your existing inventory workflow, while keeping shipping documents and delivery confirmations in your normal business system.

FAQ

Shipping and storage container tracking questions.

Will a GPS tracker work inside a closed steel container?

Metal walls can block GPS and cellular signals. Test the tracker in the intended position with the doors closed. A suitable exterior location may give better reception, provided it is secure and clear of container handling equipment.

Can I track a container at a customer jobsite?

Yes, when the tracker has power, an active plan, and compatible reception at the site. Set a geofence around the work area and check the latest reported location in the app.

Does Cube provide tracking throughout an ocean voyage?

Cube uses cellular service to send location reports. Continuous reporting should not be expected offshore or where supported cellular service is unavailable. Confirm coverage and carrier requirements before arranging international transport.

Can the tracker tell me whether a container door opened?

Location tracking and movement alerts do not establish whether a door opened. Use a dedicated door sensor or inspection process when you need to monitor access or cargo condition.

Can I manage multiple tracked containers?

Yes. Pair multiple trackers in the Cube Tracker app, link each one to a container ID in your records, and activate a separate data plan for every device.

How do I choose reporting settings for a stored container?

Consider how often you need updates, the storage duration, and charging access. More frequent reporting can shorten battery life. Test settings in the actual storage location and check battery status regularly.
